French Man Charged in €20K Crypto Robbery While Impersonating Police, March 2026

According to Le Parisien, a 32-year-old French man was charged in March in connection with a violent robbery targeting a crypto holder. Three suspects posing as police officers broke into a home in Nancy, France, attempting to force the victim to surrender approximately €20,000 in crypto assets. The robbery was unsuccessful after the victim's daughter alerted authorities and the suspects fled by car. The targeting information may have originated from a January data breach at Waltio, France's crypto tax reporting platform.
