U.S. Weekly Jobless Claims Fall to 187K, Below Forecast, Sending Spot Gold Down 1.41% to Session Lows

According to Kitco News, U.S. initial jobless claims fell to 187,000 for the week ending July 18 on Thursday, below economists' consensus forecast of 212,000. The Labor Department's release triggered a market selloff, with spot gold prices declining 1.41% to session lows of $4,071.59 per ounce. The four-week moving average for new claims also came in better than expected at 207,500 versus the forecasted 213,000.
