Two Brothers Plead Guilty to $8 Million Crypto Robbery of Minnesota Family

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Minnesota, Isiah Angelo Garcia and Raymond Christian Garcia pleaded guilty on Thursday to interference with commerce by robbery. The brothers traveled from Texas to Minnesota on September 19, 2025, and held a family at gunpoint while forcing the victim to transfer $8 million in cryptocurrency from online accounts and hardware wallets. Each faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison. Both defendants admitted to using firearms during the robbery and agreed to pay more than $8 million in restitution.

The case reflects a broader surge in wrench attacks targeting crypto holders. Security firm CertiK found that crypto-related assaults and kidnappings increased 75% in 2025 compared to the prior year, with estimated losses reaching $101 million in the first four months of 2026.
