Tesla Robotaxi Shows 90% Lower Serious Accident Rate Than Human Drivers, Per Bank of America Analysis

According to Barron's, citing Bank of America Securities analyst Alexander Perry, Tesla's autonomous vehicles have demonstrated significantly safer performance than human drivers. Tesla reports one reportable accident per 101,000 miles, while Alphabet's Waymo records one per 108,000 miles. Most critically, Waymo data shows one serious accident per 19.3 million miles—roughly 90% lower than human drivers' average of one serious accident per 1.9 million miles. As of June 16, Tesla operated 69 Robotaxi vehicles across four U.S. cities, compared to Waymo's 620 vehicles in Texas.
