According to a recent CNBC interview, Jeremy Grantham, GMO co-founder and renowned bubble forecaster, reiterated his criticism of Bitcoin, calling it a "completely useless and purely speculative" asset lacking intrinsic value and real economic use. He predicted Bitcoin will slowly fade from the market over decades, not in a sudden crash but "quietly disappearing."

Grantham noted Bitcoin's extreme price volatility makes it unreliable as a store of value. He highlighted that Bitcoin has fallen approximately 52% from its October 2025 high and currently trades below $60,000, driven more by market sentiment than fundamentals. He also emphasized Bitcoin lacks practical utility for daily transactions and criticized its primary use for facilitating criminal fund transfers. In contrast, Grantham views gold as a superior store of value and inflation hedge.
