Google Sues Chinese Crime Group for Using Gemini AI in $1.9B Phishing Scam

Google filed a lawsuit on Friday against Outsider Enterprise for allegedly using Gemini AI to automate phishing campaigns that targeted hundreds of thousands of U.S. victims. According to court documents, the Chinese cybercrime network deployed over 2.5 million fraudulent text messages and created 8,000 phishing websites mimicking legitimate portals to steal financial credentials. The FBI estimates the operation stole 3.87 million credit card numbers, causing approximately $1.9 billion in losses since July 2023. The phishing sites targeted cryptocurrency wallets and exchange credentials alongside traditional financial accounts.
