Google Appeals German Court Ruling Holding It Liable for AI Overviews False Claims

According to Reuters, Google said on June 12 that it would appeal a German court ruling holding it directly liable for false claims generated by AI Overviews. The Regional Court of Munich issued a temporary injunction the same day after the feature falsely linked two Munich-based publishers to scams, subscription traps, and shady business practices. The court determined that the AI-generated summaries constituted Google's own statements, as the feature combined and evaluated multiple sources to create new claims that went beyond the underlying search results, distinguishing it from traditional search and autocomplete features.
