Google Sues Chinese Cybercrime Network for Using Gemini to Automate Phishing Scams

According to Google's legal filing, the company sued Chinese cybercrime network Outsider Enterprise last month for using Gemini AI to automate phishing scams. Operating via Telegram, Outsider Enterprise provided instructions on how to use Gemini to create fraudulent websites mimicking Google, YouTube, and government agencies, offering nearly 300 scam templates to users.

The scams enabled by the network resulted in more than 2.5 million text messages sent to Android users, with 55,000 messages sent during a two-week period last month. Google has tracked 9,000 fake websites and 1 million URLs connected to the operation. Google worked with AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile to block the malicious messages.
