Finally, it happened! Mikey Williams officially joined the Converge FiberXers, and this is huge news for Filipino basketball. After three years away, the guard is returning to the PBA, and he waited almost a year for this moment while the team processed all the necessary paperwork.

I remember when Williams was a star for TNT Tropang 5G – winning the championship twice and earning MVP honors both times in the Finals. He was second in the MVP voting for the season, First Mythical Team – the guy was at the peak of his career. But then everything went off track. He started negotiations for a new contract, even though he had just extended his deal for three years. Relations with the team soured, and in 2023 he was released, then traded to FiberXers for Jordan Heading.

Now Mikey Williams is with Converge, and this could be the boost the team needs. They’ve never made it to the semifinals in franchise history, and now they’re assembling a serious roster. Besides Williams, they brought in Calvin Abueva from Titan Ultra and Jonnel Policarpio from NLEX. Plus, they signed former NBA player Kyle Kelly, a 7-foot center who played for the Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans.

TNT is also not resting – they signed 7-foot-tall Bol Bula, a former NBA player. It’s shaping up to be an interesting battle in the upcoming Commissioner’s Cup. Curious to see how Mikey Williams performs after such a long break.
