U.S. Stock Indexes Close Mixed on June 16: S&P 500 Down 0.5%, Nasdaq 100 Falls 1.8%

U.S. stock indexes closed mixed today. The S&P 500 fell 0.5% with technology down 2.1% and energy down 0.4%, while financials gained 1.4%. The Nasdaq 100 declined 1.8%, with semiconductor stocks particularly under pressure; Lumentum dropped 8.4%, Microchip Power (MPWR) fell 8.2%, and Marvell Technology slid 8.1%. Intel, KLA, and other chip makers also declined 5% to 7.8%. The Dow Jones rose approximately 380 points, boosted by JPMorgan Chase up 3.6%, Visa, 3M, Home Depot, American Express, Caterpillar, and Goldman Sachs each gaining at least 1.4%. Microsoft, Salesforce, and Nvidia led declines among Dow components, each down up to 1.9%. The semiconductor index fell 5.3%.
