U.S. Imposes Export Ban on Anthropic's Fable 5 and Mythos 5 Models After 24-Hour Policy Standoff

According to Guru Club, the U.S. government imposed export controls on Anthropic's Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models on June 15, effectively banning foreign access. The move followed a 24-hour crisis triggered when Amazon CEO Andy Jassy raised security concerns about the models' guardrails being circumvented. The White House Treasury Secretary, National Cyber Director, and Chief of Staff sequentially contacted Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei demanding the takedown of Fable 5, which was rejected. The government ultimately enacted the export ban, preventing all customers from accessing both models. Anthropic responded publicly, calling the measure disproportionate and questioning the White House's decision-making transparency and technical justification.
