U.S. Gasoline Demand Grows 1.5% in March-April Despite 50% Price Rise, Says IEA

GAS1.35%
According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), U.S. gasoline demand grew 1.5 percent year-over-year in March and April, reversing a 12-month declining trend despite gas prices rising nearly 50 percent. The increase came as consumer confidence weakened, marking unexpectedly strong momentum in fuel consumption. U.S. drivers account for nearly one-third of global gasoline consumption, making American fuel demand a critical market factor. The IEA noted preliminary data indicated growth slowed in May and June.
