According to Fox Business, President Trump said on Wednesday (July 1) that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company's chipmaking facility under construction in Arizona will roughly double in size, with Trump claiming the expansion could help the U.S. capture about 50% of the global chip market before his presidency ends.
Trump stated that TSMC is among Taiwan-based manufacturers continuing to invest heavily in the U.S. "The world's largest chip maker is building in Arizona and just announced they're going to double the size," Trump said. "When I leave office, the United States could have 50% of the chip market. Do you know how much we have now? Nothing." TSMC declined to comment.
