Tokyo Prosecutors Extend Detention of JSDF Officer in Chinese Embassy Incident; Beijing Lodges Multiple Protests

According to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian on June 17, Tokyo prosecutors have decided to extend the detention period for investigation of Akihiro Murata, a Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) officer who illegally entered the Chinese embassy in Japan with a knife nearly three months ago. The Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that Japan's handling of the case has been slow, and Beijing has lodged multiple protests over the security threat posed by the incident.
