According to South China Morning Post, Tencent has opened WeChat to AI assistants from smartphone makers including Honor, Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo, allowing them to send messages and initiate voice or video calls. Honor has already enabled the feature through its YOYO AI assistant. The move is significant given WeChat's 1.34 billion users and mini-program ecosystem of roughly 4.1 million services. The opening marks a policy shift for Tencent, which previously blocked system-level AI assistants from accessing WeChat for security reasons. Tencent is also reportedly developing its own AI agent to help users navigate mini-programs with voice commands.
