According to a Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council press conference on July 2, Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te claimed that China is weaponizing agricultural products and using trade restrictions and tariff increases to exert political pressure. Lai cited data showing Taiwan's agricultural exports to China fell from 20.5% of total exports in 2015 to 11.5% in 2025, with the United States and Japan now replacing China as Taiwan's top two agricultural export markets.
