Swiss National Bank Plans to Hold Key Rate at Zero Through End of 2027

According to sources familiar with the matter, the Swiss National Bank plans to maintain its key interest rate at zero through the end of 2027 before considering any rate hike, as of July 27. The plan is based on current inflation forecasts and assumes no major economic shocks occur. The SNB noted that a recent weakening of the Swiss franc against the euro and interest rate differentials between Switzerland and the eurozone are also relevant factors. Sources added that negative rates remain a contingency option if economic conditions worsen, though this is not the base case scenario.
