South Korea Margin Call Liquidations Hit 59.6B Won on July 21, Highest Since July 10

According to the Financial Investment Association, forced liquidations of margin trading positions in South Korea surged to 59.6 billion won on July 21, the highest level since July 10. The ratio of forced liquidations to outstanding margin debt reached 5.7% on July 21, up sharply from 1.1% just five days earlier on July 16. Outstanding margin trading balances stood at 33.5 trillion won, declining from a peak of 38.6 trillion won recorded on June 24 as the broader market continued to adjust.
