According to Odaily and CoinDesk, on July 22, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) agreed to pay $150,000 to settle a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit filed by History Associates Inc. regarding its Ethereum investigation records. The case was originally brought in June 2024 by History Associates, commissioned by Coinbase, seeking disclosure of SEC documents related to Ethereum regulatory investigations, including records on former chair Gary Gensler's communications regarding Ethereum's transition from proof-of-work (PoW) to proof-of-stake (PoS). Under the settlement agreement, the SEC will continue providing remaining related documents and cover the plaintiff's legal fees. The litigation, which has spanned over two years, will formally conclude as the SEC completes submission of outstanding files.
