MetaMask Launches Address Poisoning Detection on June 21, Blocks 65.4M Events

According to Crowdfund Insider, MetaMask launched address poisoning attack detection on June 21. The feature automatically compares pasted wallet addresses against historical interactions and displays an alert if the first and last characters match but middle characters differ, preventing users from mistakenly sending funds to scam addresses.

Address poisoning attacks involve fraudsters sending small token amounts to user wallets, placing forged addresses in transaction history. Blockaid data shows over 65.4 million such attacks occurred between January 2025 and February 2026. The new detection is now available on MetaMask Mobile and browser extension.
