Meta Halts MCI Data Collection Following 1,500+ Employee Petition in May

According to The Information, Meta has narrowed data collection for its MCI tool following employee backlash last month. Starting in April, the tool recorded employee mouse movements, clicks, and screen activity to train AI models. After staff resistance citing device slowdowns and battery drain, Meta has implemented concessions: employees can pause tracking for 30 minutes, data collection switched from recording keystrokes to activity summaries, and exemptions expanded for sensitive content handlers and remote workers with limited bandwidth.
