Lebanon's Aoun Demands Israeli Withdrawal as Precondition for Talks on June 23

Lebanese President Aoun stated on June 23 that the Lebanese government will not accept any negotiation outcome below Israel's complete withdrawal from Lebanese territory and Lebanon's full restoration of sovereignty. According to Lebanon's Presidential Statement, Aoun received a briefing on the Lebanese delegation's participation in the Fifth Lebanon-US-Israel trilateral talks in Washington before making the remarks. Aoun emphasized that recent developments prove negotiation is the correct path to achieve Lebanon's national goals and safeguard sovereignty. During a phone call with U.S. Vice President Vance and Secretary of State Rubio, both affirmed American support for Lebanon's efforts to extend legitimate state authority and strengthen control over all its territory.
