Korean Won Strengthens to 1,462.50 Against Dollar on July 29 as SK Hynix Sells $2B

SK Hynix-9.29%
According to Yonhapinfomax, the Korean won strengthened against the US dollar on July 29, with USD/KRW falling to 1,462.50 from an intraday high of 1,472.10. SK Hynix sold over $2 billion worth of dollars and month-end currency settlements by exporters provided significant selling pressure on the dollar. Easing Middle East tensions—Oman and Iran approved a Strait of Hormuz mediation proposal awaiting US President Trump's endorsement—and a stronger-than-expected decline in US crude prices (Brent fell to $84 from over $100 per barrel last week) weakened the dollar globally. The US consumer confidence index came in at 90.8, below the expected 92.3, adding to dollar weakness.
