According to Ireland's Criminal Assets Bureau and Europol's European Cybercrime Centre, authorities recovered 500 BTC worth approximately $38.7 million from a dormant cryptocurrency wallet linked to a 2019 Irish drug trafficking case, marking the second successful access to wallets in the case. Europol provided technical expertise and decryption resources that enabled investigators to unlock the wallet. Arkham Intelligence data showed the seized bitcoin subsequently transferred to Wintermute, a cryptocurrency trading firm, after remaining inactive for 10 years. The bureau identified the funds as proceeds of crime. A first successful recovery of 500 BTC from a separate dormant wallet in the same case occurred in March.
