IBM Introduces First Sub-1nm Chip, Stock Rises 6% in Pre-Market Trading

IBM announced today the launch of its first sub-1nm (0.7-nanometer) chip technology, featuring a revolutionary 3D vertical stacking transistor architecture. The innovation delivers approximately 100 billion transistors on a chip the size of a fingernail, doubling transistor density compared to IBM's 2-nanometer chip released in 2021.

According to IBM's testing data, the sub-1nm technology is expected to achieve up to 50% performance improvement and reduce energy consumption by up to 70% compared to 2nm chips, while shrinking SRAM area by 40%. The advance comes as IBM stock surged more than 6% in pre-market trading.
