IMO Launches Evacuation Plan for 11,000+ Stranded Seafarers in Strait of Hormuz on June 23

The International Maritime Organization announced on June 23 the launch of an evacuation plan for seafarers stranded in the Strait of Hormuz region. According to IMO Secretary-General Poul Kristensen Andersen, the organization will work closely with Iran, Oman, the United States, and international shipping industry partners to evacuate over 11,000 seafarers currently trapped in the area. Andersen noted that months of ongoing conflict have caused severe hardship to seafarers and disrupted global trade.
