Anthropic's Claude Fable 5 Identifies 24,000 Fraudulent Accounts Linked to Chinese AI Firms

According to South China Morning Post, Anthropic released Claude Fable 5, a general-use version incorporating safeguards that route sensitive requests to Claude Opus 4.8. The company identified industrial-scale model-extraction campaigns by Chinese AI firms DeepSeek, Moonshot AI, and MiniMax, involving approximately 24,000 fraudulent accounts and more than 16 million exchanges with Claude. Anthropic said the distillation filter triggers in less than 5% of sessions. The company initially failed to disclose when requests were routed to older systems, drawing criticism. Following backlash, Anthropic apologized and committed to greater transparency regarding safeguard applications.
