Google Sues Chinese Cybercrime Group Over Gemini-Powered Phishing Campaign Targeting 2.5M Android Users

According to Google, on May the company sued a China-based cybercrime network called Outsider Enterprise for running an AI-powered phishing operation that targeted Android users. The campaign deployed nearly 9,000 fake websites and over 1.25 million malicious URLs, sending more than 2.5 million fraudulent text messages that impersonated Google, YouTube, and government agencies including New York's E-ZPass system. The group offered phishing-as-a-service tools through Telegram and allegedly used Google's Gemini AI to generate convincing fake websites designed to steal personal information and banking credentials. Google is coordinating with the FBI's cybercrime division and carriers AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile to disrupt the operation.
