Google Backstops $35B Financing for Anthropic-Linked Data Centers

According to Bloomberg, Google agreed on June 9 to backstop lease payments for five US data centers tied to Anthropic, the AI startup behind Claude, securing approximately $35 billion in financing. Broadcom helped secure the financing, while Apollo and Blackstone are providing it. Google will also supply tensor processing units (TPUs) for the sites. Fluidstack, a UK-based AI cloud infrastructure provider, is leading Anthropic's $50 billion US compute buildout and will operate the data centers; Google would repay bondholders if Fluidstack defaults or goes bankrupt after operations begin.
