Florida Sues TikTok Over Underage User Accounts; 25 States Join Legal Action

According to Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, TikTok was sued on Monday (June 15) for violating state child protection laws by allowing users under 14 to create accounts and exposing minors to violent and explicit content.

The lawsuit, filed in St. Lucie County court, alleges that TikTok's parent company ByteDance knowingly circumvented Florida law and misled parents about platform risks. Over 25 U.S. states have filed similar lawsuits against TikTok, claiming the platform uses addictive algorithms to engage teenagers and harm their mental health. TikTok said it is suspending under-14 accounts and working to comply with state regulations.
