Fed's Goolsbee Warns Services Inflation Sticky, Flags Risk of Persistence at 3-4% on June 22

According to Marketplace, Chicago Federal Reserve President Austan Goolsbee warned on Monday (June 22) that the Fed is focusing on whether persistent services inflation will remain at 3-4% levels rather than declining as tariff impacts and Middle East tensions ease. Goolsbee expressed particular concern about services price growth, which is not driven by oil prices or tariffs and therefore poses greater persistent risk historically. U.S. May consumer price index rose 3.2% year-over-year, while the Fed's preferred inflation gauge, the Personal Consumption Expenditures price index, increased 3.8% in April, both significantly above the Fed's 2% target.
