Federal Judge Dismisses xAI's Trade Secret Lawsuit Against OpenAI

Federal Judge Rita Lin dismissed xAI's trade secret lawsuit against OpenAI, denying the company's request to amend the complaint. The judge ruled that xAI failed to prove OpenAI induced its former engineers to disclose trade secrets related to the Grok chatbot during recruitment. Judge Lin noted that asking job candidates to discuss their previous work is standard hiring practice and does not constitute inducement to reveal confidential information. She stated that accepting xAI's logic could expose employers to legal risk whenever they inquire about candidates' work history. This ruling follows a federal jury's dismissal of Elon Musk's earlier lawsuit against OpenAI, CEO Sam Altman, and co-founder Greg Brockman for allegedly abandoning the company's non-profit mission.
