China's Police Release 5 Deepfake and Hoax Cases; AI-Generated Rumors, Staged 'Kidnappings' Result in Arrests

According to China's Ministry of Public Security Cyberspace Administration, police disclosed on May 26 five typical cases involving internet hoaxes and fabricated rumors. Cases include staged 'kidnapping' videos, false reports of human trafficking schemes, fabricated pregnancy rumors at a school, AI-generated false reports of bridge collapse, and AI-generated fabricated workplace explosion reports. Authorities arrested multiple individuals involved in creating and spreading the false content.
