China Launches Public-Private Relief Coordination as Earthquake, Floods Affect Multiple Provinces; 42,954 Donated Items Distributed as of May 21

As of May 21, China's State Council Committee Office for Disaster Prevention and the Emergency Management Ministry launched a public-private emergency supply coordination mechanism to address the 5.2-magnitude earthquake in Liuzhou, Guangxi, and severe flooding in Guizhou, Hunan, Hubei, and Jiangxi since May 18. In addition to 48,000 central disaster relief items distributed in four batches, the government coordinated with organizations including the China Red Cross to provide targeted aid for vulnerable groups. Total donated supplies reached 42,954 items: Guangxi 7,280; Guizhou 12,868; Hunan 8,565; Hubei 12,771; Jiangxi 1,470.
