China's CXMT Becomes World's 4th Largest DRAM Maker, But Short-Term Supply Crunch Unlikely to Ease

DRAM2.91%
According to SemiAnalysis, China's long-term memory chipmaker CXMT has become the world's fourth-largest DRAM manufacturer as of June 30, putting increased pressure on rivals SK Hynix, Samsung, and Micron. However, the company faces significant equipment export controls, technical gaps several generations behind leading competitors, and market constraints that will limit its ability to materially ease the current DRAM shortage in the near term. The research firm noted that while CXMT is expanding capacity with expected strong cash flows, its growth should not be viewed as ending the storage cycle but rather as long-term structural competition in the industry.
