According to sources monitored by Beating, Paul Meade, the Apple VP overseeing Vision Pro and smart glasses hardware engineering, will leave the company next week to join OpenAI's hardware division. Meade has spent 16 years at Apple, serving as a core engineering manager for iPad and iPhone projects before joining the Vision Products Group in 2017 and taking full control of hardware engineering from 2019 onward.
Meade's departure follows Apple's recent hardware restructuring, driven by weak Vision Pro sales and a strategic shift from closed headsets toward smart glasses similar to Meta's offering. The departure reflects broader reorganization efforts in Apple's hardware division following the announcement that John Ternus will become CEO on September 1, with new Chief Hardware Officer Johny Srouji restructuring reporting lines.
