China Summons Philippine Ambassador Over Ren'ai Reef Provocations on July 21, Two Rubber Boats Deployed

On July 21, China's Foreign Ministry Maritime and Boundary Affairs Bureau summoned the Philippine ambassador and lodged serious diplomatic representations over provocations at Ren'ai Reef. According to the ministry, Philippine forces deployed two rubber boats from an illegally beached military vessel to dangerously approach and collide with Chinese Coast Guard vessels. Philippine personnel attacked Chinese law enforcement officers and endangered their safety, the ministry stated. China asserts that Ren'ai Reef is part of its Nansha Islands and Chinese territory. The ministry demanded that the Philippines cease provocations and stop inflammatory rhetoric, pledging to take measures to defend China's territorial sovereignty and maritime rights.
