China Allows Philippines to Transfer Injured Personnel from Grounded Ship at Second Thomas Shoal on July 21

Chinese Coast Guard spokesman Jiang Lue stated on the morning of July 21 that China, on humanitarian grounds, permitted Philippine forces to transfer injured personnel from the illegally grounded BRP Sierra Madre (BRP-57) at Second Thomas Shoal (Ren'ai Reef) to the Philippine Coast Guard vessel BRP Malapascua (BRP-9702) using ship-borne boats. The transfer was carried out with inquiries and confirmation from Chinese Coast Guard vessels, which maintained full monitoring throughout the operation. China's Coast Guard said it will continue to conduct rights protection and law enforcement activities at the shoal and surrounding waters.
