China Rebuts Japan's Defense Policy Claims, Says Actions Contradict Words

GateNews
According to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning on May 26, Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Masatoshi Kihara claimed that Japan's exclusively defensive defense (senmon bouei) policy remains unchanged and that China's references to "new militarism" are unfounded. Mao countered that China is more concerned with Japan's actions than words, citing recent military expansions including increased defense spending, relaxed weapons export restrictions, frequent military exercises, deployment of long-range missiles, stockpiling sensitive nuclear materials, and constitutional amendments toward a "nation capable of warfare." Mao stated such actions contradict Japan's stated commitment to its defensive posture and fuel international concerns about Japanese remilitarization.
