China Fines Ctrip 5.179 Billion Yuan for Online Hotel Monopoly Abuse on July 25

According to China's State Administration for Market Regulation, Ctrip Group faced a record 5.179 billion yuan penalty yesterday (July 25) for abusing its dominant market position in online hotel booking services. The penalty includes 1.658 billion yuan in forfeited illegal gains, 3.521 billion yuan in fines based on 7.5% of 2025 domestic sales, and 122 million yuan in mandatory refunds to hotels for illegally collected reserve funds. This marks the first major antitrust case against China's online travel agency sector, addressing violations including forced exclusivity agreements and mandatory lowest-price policies that restricted hotel operators' pricing autonomy and platform competition.
