China and New Zealand Discuss Free Trade Agreement at APEC Trade Meeting on May 21

According to China's Commerce Ministry, Commerce Minister Wang Wentao met yesterday (May 21) with New Zealand Trade Minister Todd McClay in Suzhou during an APEC trade ministers' meeting. Both sides discussed deepening bilateral economic and trade cooperation and regional collaboration. Wang stated that China and New Zealand are exploring cooperation in agriculture and renewable energy, and called for accelerating negotiations on a negative list for service trade under their free trade agreement, aiming for substantial progress this year. McClay expressed New Zealand's commitment to strengthening trade and investment cooperation with China and welcomed China hosting APEC meetings in 2026.
