Billion-Dollar Lender River Bank & Trust Hit by Ransomware Attack on June 16, Customer Data Potentially Exposed

According to an SEC filing, River Bank & Trust, a $3.8 billion-asset lender headquartered in Alabama, suffered a ransomware attack after a hacker gained access to its network on June 16th. The company discovered the breach on June 19th and immediately disabled affected administrative accounts and took impacted systems offline.

An investigation with third-party forensics is underway to determine the nature and scope of the incident, including whether personally identifiable information was subject to unauthorized access or exfiltration. River stated that certain operations have been impacted and it is working with external cybersecurity professionals to restore them, though it has not yet determined whether the incident will materially impact its business or financial condition.
