Zimbabwe Mandates Annual $500 Registration Fee for Crypto Firms

According to Reuters, Zimbabwe's Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube issued new regulations requiring cryptocurrency companies engaged in buying, selling, transferring, and custodial services to register annually with the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) for a $500 fee. Operating without registration will be considered a violation. The regulations mark Zimbabwe's first comprehensive crypto oversight framework; the sector previously operated in a legal gray area following the country's 2018 ban on financial institutions trading cryptocurrencies.
