Amazon Predicts First Commercially Useful Quantum Computers Within 5-7 Years

According to CNBC, Amazon AI executive Peter DeSantis predicted on Wednesday that the first commercially useful quantum computers will arrive within 5-7 years. DeSantis, who leads Amazon's AI models, chips and quantum computing organization, said the technology will then advance similarly to Moore's Law, with systems becoming more powerful annually. He identified chemistry and material science as initial application areas where quantum computers could deliver progress beyond classical computing capabilities. The forecast positions Amazon's timeline between Google's five-year outlook and Microsoft's 2029 target for commercially viable quantum systems.
