45% of Central Banks Plan to Increase Gold Holdings Over Next 12 Months: WGC Survey

According to the World Gold Council (WGC), on June 16, 45% of surveyed central banks plan to increase their gold holdings over the next 12 months, up 2 percentage points year-over-year. The WGC's annual survey, covering 74 central banks, found that 54% intend to maintain current gold reserves while 1% expect holdings to decline. Additionally, 93% of respondents reported already holding gold, compared with 81% a year earlier. Among future storage strategies, 7% of central banks plan to increase domestic storage in the next 12 months, while 9% intend to diversify overseas storage locations.
