Zhejiang City and Rural Banks Cut Deposit Rates by 5BP on July 22; Expert Rules Out Full Rate-Cut Cycle

According to Jin10, Zhejiang's local rate-setting mechanism issued a notice on July 22 instructing city commercial banks and rural commercial banks to cut deposit rate ceilings by 5 basis points across two-year, three-year, and five-year tenors. The adjustment took effect on July 22. Dong Xmiao, chief economist at Zanglian, clarified that this is a regional self-disciplinary measure affecting only institutions within Zhejiang and does not signal a nationwide rate-cut cycle, as major state-owned banks and national stock-holding banks are unaffected.
