Zcash Activates Ironwood Upgrade, Seals Orchard Pool Forcing $1.8B Migration on July 28

ZEC-3.41%
On July 28, Zcash activated the Ironwood upgrade at block height 3,428,143, sealing its Orchard shielded pool to new payments and forcing migration of approximately 3.6 million ZEC worth roughly $1.8 billion. The NU6.3 hard fork introduced a separate Ironwood pool with a new transaction format and accounting checkpoint designed to contain potential risks from a critical cryptographic flaw discovered in Orchard in May. While no evidence of exploitation has been detected, Orchard's privacy design prevented conclusive verification of its historical integrity. Zodl and Cake Wallet are providing migration tools to move funds to the new Ironwood pool. ZEC traded near $466 following activation, down 4.8% in 24 hours despite a 1,000% yearly gain.
