According to RippleX Head of Engineering Ayo Akinyele, XRP Ledger agentic payment transactions have surpassed 1 million, with the network potentially reaching 100 million within two years. Agentic payments are transactions initiated by AI software on behalf of users without manual approval, allowing AI agents to pay for APIs, data, and computing services autonomously.
XRP Ledger's appeal for this use case rests on its settlement speed of three to five seconds, predictable transaction costs, and payments-first architecture. "We have predictability in terms of transaction costs, and we've been purpose-built for payments from the get-go," Akinyele said. The network is competing against other payment companies and blockchain protocols to become the preferred settlement layer for machine-driven transactions.
