User Files Lawsuit Against ByteDance's Doubaodao After AI Misled 600 Yuan Flight Refund

According to reports, a user filed a lawsuit on May 12 against Beijing Springfield Zhiyun Technology Co., Ltd. (operator of AI assistant Doubaodao) after being misled on airline refund procedures. The user initially consulted Doubaodao about canceling a flight from Shijiazhuang to Chongqing and was told the airline would charge only 5% in fees. Based on this guidance, the user proceeded without verifying with the airline, but was charged 40% instead, resulting in a 600-yuan loss. Doubaodao subsequently promised full reimbursement by May 6, providing a "compensation guarantee letter", but failed to deliver any payment, claiming it could not transfer funds as an AI. A lawyer noted that AI-generated compensation commitments lack legal validity, as AI entities cannot act as independent civil subjects.
