U.S. Treasury Secretary Approves Using Frozen Iranian Assets to Compensate Gulf Allies on June 12

According to BlockBeats, U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent stated on June 12 that the U.S. may use frozen Iranian assets to compensate Gulf allies for any damages caused by Iran, including costs for regional security and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Bessent emphasized that Iran is engaged in zero-sum competition and any harm to U.S. allies would be offset by Iranian account funds. Iran has previously demanded the return of approximately $24 billion in frozen assets and opposed U.S. use of those funds.
